What Causes Numbness In Ears?

Hi, im trying to help my friend figure out what has happened to his ear. He fell asleep yesterday and when he woke up, his ear felt numb. It has now been almost 24 hours and his ear is still numb. He can hear fine through the effected ear and it is causing no pain.

Hi welcome to the health care magic

Here it seems your friend can have Eustachian tube edema or tympanic membrane retraction

Otoscopy examination needs to be done to look for any Otological cause if present

Steam inhalation useful for Eustachian tube edema secondary to cold

Benadryl like decongestant can be prescribed If inflammation and congestion present

Valsalva manouver done If needed for retracted tympanic membrane

Take care

Consult otorhinolaryngologist for examination
