What Causes Numbness At The Tip Of Tongue, Bottom Lip And Chin?

Hello,
For about a month now the tip of my tongue has felt numb and now for a little over a week my bottom lip and chin has started feeling the same. I have full movement, however they feel different like I have just been to the dentist and the numbness is wearing off. Any suggestions?

Hi Dear,
Welcome to HCM.
Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . Numbness at the tip of the tongue is known as paresthesia of tongue . There can be number of causes that cause numbness of tip of tongue and other parts like bottom lip and chin . It can be cause bu trauma to concern part , vitamin deficiency , dental surgery or food poisoning .

I would suggest you to consult dentist or oral surgeon for proper examination to find the exact cause and to rule out other conditions like stroke , multiple sclerosis or ant kind of tumor.

Doctor may prescribe vitamin B12 supplement at least for a month or antibiotics for dental infection. Doctor may refer to another specialist if needed.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain numbness of the tip of the tongue can be due to any injury to the fibres of lingual nerve as the tongue sensations are due to nerve fibres of lingual nerve..
Therefore any trauma or infection(commonly viral infection) of the nerve can lead to numbness of the area supplied..

The chin and lower lips are supplied by mental nerve and both of there nerves are parts of mandibular nerve and any trauma or infection in the nerve fibres can lead to numbness..

In case of trauma the nerve will take time to heal which is unpredictable and it can take from weeks or months even years to recover with full function..

While in case of infection medication for the same can be relieving..

Hope this information helps..
