Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Numbness And Swelling On Leg While Suffering From Spondylolisthesis?
I have been diagnosed with spondylolisthesis and have been going to physical therapy. I did my exercises at home yesterday. One of my ongoing symptoms is numbness down the surface of my left leg to just below the knee. Today, I have a hugely swollen left ankle. Should I be concerned?
The swelling of the ankle is not related to the spondylolisthesis. It may be a venous return disturbance or ankle issue specifically. Use stocking or ankle brace and see if it comes down.
For spondylolisthesis, one needs a good exercise spine rehabilitation program. We cannot correct or fix this with surgery but we can allow the muscles to help the stability of the spinal column which can avoid symptoms.
In my clinical practice of over 12 years, most spondylolistheses are pain-free and no symptoms.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
