What Causes Night Sweats While On Vantin?

this is my second course of vantin in 4 months for bronchial infections. Immediately finishing the first round in January, I began to experience sweats night and day, not related to menopause which was completed 30 years ago. I am 72. The sweats have continued and become more frequent with the second bronchial infection also treated with Vantin. The severity of these sweats have left me constantly fatigued due to continual sleep interference. Is there any connection between the Vantin and these symptoms?

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear you've been having sweats while taking Vantin. Excessive sweating is not a known side effect of Vantin, though it can cause flushing and difficulty with sleep. Perhaps more likely is that the sweats are coming from the bronchial infection you are being treated for, though the sweating should come with fevers.

If the sweating again resolves after you stop the Vantin, your doctor could consider using another antibiotic in the future if there is a good alternative. If the sweats continue even after stopping Vantin, it is likely there is something else going on.

There could be many causes for this, including potentially serious malignancies (especially lymphoma), infections (especially tuberculosis, depending on if you are in a part of the world where this is common), or endocrine disease; however, some people experience sweats, possibly associated with anxiety, and there is no underlying disease causing it.

You would need to have a detailed evaluation by your doctor to help find the cause in your case. I hope that helps and that you and your doctor are able to get to the bottom of this. Please let me know if you happen to have any more questions, I would be glad to try to help.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
