What Causes Nausea, breast Tenderness And Fatigue After Taking Plan B?

About a month ago I took a plan b after te condom broke during sex. My period was due a week afterwards and never came on. In the meantime I have been severely nauseous, have sensitive and tender breasts, lower back pain and fatigue. Are these side effects of the plan b or possible pregnancy?

Hi,

According to the description the possibilities are:
- As you are not using any contraceptive measures and as sometimes symptoms like nausea, breast tenderness, fatigue, etc., seen in early pregnancy there is some possibility of pregnancy.
- But as your urine pregnancy test kits gave negative results, to come to one conclusion, please go for a blood test for pregnancy. If it shows serum beta HCG levels of less than 5 mIU/mL you can exclude the possibility of pregnancy and you can consider the symptoms as part of premenstrual syndrome.

During premenstrual syndrome, because of the reproductive hormonal fluctuation these type of symptoms can be seen and this will usually subside after the onset of menstrual periods. If the symptoms persist or became severe, you can go for symptomatic treatment with anti-emetics and analgesics with your doctor's advice. Supplements containing evening primrose oil can help in relieving the premenstrual symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
