What Causes Nausea During Pregnancy?

Hi, I'm 7weeks pregnant...im taking Navidoxine before I go to bed and zantac 150mg when needed. My nausea is causing me depression, I'm unable to do anything during the day. I had GERD for years and it's getting worse during pregnancy in addition to nausea all day long...any advice? My doc advised me to take zofran but read that it might cause birth defects...

Hi,
I understand your concern.
- Vomiting in pregnancy is due to raised pregnancy hormones in mother's circulation-to which she is not used to.Because of the nausea, she can not eat sufficiently, gets weaker - making her concerned/ depressed about her baby's development-
- In your case this has been aggravated by your GERD.
- Zofran is a medicine to prevent vomiting,. It is not known to harm unborn baby- but is is not indicated in nursing mothers/ children under 5 years.
- I would advise you to take pills of Doxylamin succinate + pyridoxin hydrochloride & folic acid preparation( Doxinate plus) 2 pills at bed time along with your GERD drugs,
- Take small & multiple servings of food , avoid spicy/oily food. take plenty of fruits, vegetables, salads, milk( cold milk will be digested easily)
be under a gynecologist's care & follow the advise given.
Thanks.
