What Causes Nausea And Diarrhea?

Hi, I m a 46 year old AA Male. I ve been experiencing mild nausea and diarrhea for more than 3 days, since Friday. I ve been able to eat and drink but with much trepidation. I m not totally incapacitated (I m able to function), but the nausea has been annoying. I had some questionable Mexican food last Wednesday, could this possibly be food poisoning?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Looking at your description it might be related to food poisoning, gastroenteritis or indigestion. I would advise you for a stool test for ova, cyst or protozoa. You may require a course of antibiotics like metronidazole group of drugs under medical supervision. Meanwhile you can take antiemetic like domperidone or ondansatron group of drugs with antacids or antiacidity medicine like pantoprazole or ranitidine group of drugs for symptomatic relief.

You must take lots of fluids like fresh fruit juices, ORS and water to counter dehydration and electrolyte imbalances.

Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to ask for follow up question. I will be happy to help you.

Best wishes,
Dr. BR Hudda
