What Causes Muscle Spasms And Weakness When Antibiotics For Sore Throat Taken?

I m 22 years old and weigh about 160. I get sick alot on off with colds and sinus infections to tonsillitis. I had a fibroid removed from my breast two years ago and also had two colonoscopies done within a year. I had a stomach ulcer and I suffer from IBS and bad heartburn. About a month an a half ago I had my tonsils removed. Felt fine for awhile after until last week. For five days I had a sore throat and bad congestion with a fever that fluctuated and got as high as 101.7. Went to the docs she checked for the flu, strep and mono. All came back negative. They called me the next day with blood results and had an elevated white blood cell count and potassium levels. Redid blood work couple days later and blood results were back to normal. She gave me a zpack and after a couple days I felt better. Last night all of a sudden fever and sore throat and tongue came back along with bad chills and muscle weakness. Went back to docs today and strep test was negative. Saw my ENT today and he says I have a bad infection and have a whole bunch of canker sores all through out the back of my throat and it hurts really bad and impossible to swallow. He gave me amoxicillin and a steroid pack called medrol. Haven t starters the steroids yet but just within the hour I felt my heart racing and my pulse was 116 which is higher then usual and all of a sudden I got bad diarhea and horrible muscle pain and muscle weakness. Any advice or tips, I just want not feel better and not be sick for once.

Hi,

It can be most likely Amoxicillin induced diarrhea. Take amoxicillin only after food. Taking bananas, curd or yogurt is good. You can also take tea with lemon and ginger. Taking Esomeprazole (Nexium) will decrease the gastric irritation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
