What Causes Massive Headache, Dizziness, Nausea And Numbness?

Over the course of summer, I realized that my energy level was very low, when I put in a full days’ work, I would come home hurting everywhere, my shoulders, hips, knees and back. It felt like my heart couldn’t furnish my body with what it needed to function properly. I sort of brushed it off, thinking I wasn’t twenty anymore and just maybe this was part of menopause. I also have a problem with the electrical system within my body and in the past, I was diagnosed with Syncope, but I hadn’t had any episodes in a long time, I was in grief back then, so I sort of associated it with that in a sense. Two months ago, I woke up, left my bedroom to climb up the stairs, once I reached the top, everything went to hell in a hand basket….I broke out in sweats, severe pain in my stomach, nausea, blurriness, fighting the urge to pass out, pressure on my chest, shocks in the chest area around my heart, I managed to make my way to the phone, I was so confused and feeling so ill that I dialed the wrong number on the phone to reach my daughter who lives across the road, I call this number daily, never had that problem in the past. I failed miserably and so I decided the best thing to do was to lie down instead on the couch, continuing to fight the urge to pass out. I was alone and terrified to say the least. The worst of whatever was happening finally passed, but I was left feeling very weak and I slept the rest of the day and left feeling many symptoms that I wasn’t prior to this event. I’m walking around with a very low energy level all the time, a feeling that everything I do, I am forcing my body to do on a regular basis, massive headaches, dizzy spells, the sweats, nausea, blurriness, ringing in the ears, palpitations, numbness, pain in between my shoulders, the wanting to pass out, shocks and pressure in the chest area around the heart and my blood pressure is elevated, where in the past it was always low. This morning, my blood pressure was 164 over 105 Heart beart 60 Do you have any idea what might be causing these symptoms and how to rectify this situation?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I will list some of the symptoms that you have mentioned to summarise the case and history.

- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Numbness
- Pressure in the chest
- Blurring of vision
- High blood pressure - 164/105

These symptoms point towards a heart related issue. Commonly these symptoms can be seen with -

Heart attack or myocardial infarction, Angina, partial block in the blood vessels of the heart, Atherosclerosis.

All of these present similarly and may have overlapping symptoms. The next best step for you would be to see a General Physician in person.

They would examine you with a focus on the Heart and Cardiovascular System. The examination would involve checking the Blood Pressure in sitting, Standing, and lying down position.

Then, the doctor would order an ECG and other tests like angiogram if needed. This will help the doctor decide the best treatment of anti-hypertensive medications and anticoagulants that will work for you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Vignan Rachabattuni
