Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a lump on the left hand side of my neck. It comes up and down, seems to come up when pressure is high (eg after straining). It almost feels like it is in the blood vessel. Sometimes it is large and you can see it sticking out, it hurts a little when it is up. Other times it is flat and doesn t hurt at all. I have showed it to both my gp and dentist - neither could really find it, and said it was nothing to worry about (typically it was flat when I saw them!) Thank you
See there are many causes of lumps in the neck. Most commonly swelling is due to lymph nodes in the neck - they can be enlarged and swollen due to infections- bacterial or viral.
Besides, it can be due to swelling of the thyroid gland. sometimes it can be due to skin infections or swelling of salivary glands.
So I feel the best thing is to get yourself investigated. get a complete blood count done and CRP and also ultrasound neck. This will give us the exact diagnosis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Milinda Gupta
