What Causes Lower Abdominal Pain?

Hello, I am a 34 year old women who just started working out again. I have sharp shooting pain in my right lower abdomen while doing sit ups. The pain continues after working especially when I go from the horizontal to the upright position. Could this pain be caused by a hernia? Or is the pain caused by a feminine issue such as ovary cysts?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query. The pain you have described could be due to both of your suspected reasons. This could be simply due to a muscle sprain as well. However, to arrive at a diagnosis, you might need to get your self evaluated by your family physician clinically, who might also advise you for some investigations like an ultrasound of the abdomen and pelvis. Depending on the diagnosis arrived, he might advise you for some simple anti inflammatory drugs along with some kind of physiotherapy, or might refer you to a surgical/gynaecological specialist as the case might be.

I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
