What Causes Low Vitamin-D Level Despite Taking Multivitamins?
I have a constant buzzing in my head. I have bone and joint pain in my legs (left leg more than right). I have frequent sudden weakness and dizziness which can cause lose of balance. I have been diagnosed with low vitamin D levels even after being on 50,000 units a week plus what is in my daily multi vitamin and daily calcium supplement for two months. My level is currently 27. Why is the level not increasing with the large dose prescription and what could be the root cause?
As per your query about deficiency of vitamin D can be due to having a strict vegetarian diet, minimum exposure to sun, and less intake of dairy products. Since you're being diagnosed with deficiency of vitamin D, and you're not able to cover it with supplements in calcium. You need to take vitamin D tablets and sachets exclusively to meet the requirements.
Take morning sun bath without sunscreen. Foods like fish, egg yolk, and fortified milk are rich in vitamin D. I suggest you to consult your physician for advising vitamin D supplements in tables or may be in injectable form.
I hope the information helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Jyoti Pandey
