What Causes Low Energy Levels While Suffering From Hypothyroidism?

Hi I have hypothyroid and have also lived with chronic depression and psychosis. The depression came well before the thyroid shut down. I work steady nights and after 3 years find my energy level is declining. I have no energy for a personal life. Is this normal for people with hypothyroidism. Am I risking my well being by continuing to work nights? Are there risks for people like me working steady nights? If it matters......I am 51.

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain that low energy and chronic fatigue are common symptoms in low thyroid function.

Depression could also lead to such symptomatology.

But, lack of sleep can also trigger depression and this symptomatology.

That is why, I would not recommend working during the night. A good sleep is very important for a good physical and mental performance.

Hope to have been helpful!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
