Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For the past few months, I notice that I have a poo stain in my underwear, even if I clean myself appropriately. Is this a sign of something such as decreased anal tone (secondary to something else perhaps)? I have had a rectocele for years and have very loose and comfortable bowel movements.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. The poo stain in your underwear can be due to leakage of feces due to lax sphincter or due to having loose stools as you have noted. Rectocele can add on the problem. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Get a per-rectal examination by a General Surgeon and also colonoscopy to rule out any other problems. If the rectocele is present it needs clinical evaluation and investigations to decide what type of surgery will be required and may need an opinion of a Gynecologist too. Get stool and blood tested to see if any finding and get treated accordingly. Change your diet to have well formed stools. Also cleaning with water is necessary to clear off the soiling. an stop doing anything that increases the intra-abdominal pressure.
