What Causes Lightheadedness After Increasing Thyroid Medication?

I have been feeling light headed lately, for a couple of weeks now, and am wondering if I should be concerned. I just had a checkup and everything was fine. I did have an increase in my thyroid meds. I was on the lowest dosage and now it has been doubled.

Hi,

I do not understand, if everything was fine in your check up, then why did you increase the dose of your thyroid medicine? If ,thyroid profile was normal, then, usually, patient is advised to continue with the same dosage of thyroid medicine. Also, the dosage of thyroid is not increased or decreased abruptly, rather these are increased or decreased in a gradual tapering manner.

Definitely some immediate minor side effects may be their, with the required dosage of thyroid medicine like nervousness, mood swings, tiredness, shaking (tremors), headache and shortness of breath etc.

However, with therapeutic doses, most of the times, these effects are transient and go by themselves after some time. In my opinion, you should consult your doctor regarding your dosage of thyroid medicines and wait for some time for the resolution of unwanted side effects.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
