Hi,

If you have taken, the missed birth control pill within 24 hours of actual schedule time, usually you can expect complete protection. If you have not taken, the missed pill within 24 hours and missed completely, then there is a possibility of pregnancy. While using birth control pills inter-menstrual spotting can be seen as a common side effect. Missing the pill or the time can also lead to spotting.

Bacterial vaginosis if severe can lead to spotting sometimes by causing cervical erosion, vaginitis, etc. As you have finished the treatment, probably the spotting may decrease. Strictly following the schedule of pill intake also can decrease the side effects. If the spotting still persists, you can get examined during your visit and can find out the possible cause of the problem and take treatment accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
