What Causes Itchy Eyes, Headache And Sneezing While On Percocet?

I have been taking a percocet 5mg tablet maybe 3 times a week before bedtime for a couple months. During the same period I developed allergy symptoms like excessive sneezing, itchy eyes, headache, etc. I ve nevr had an allergy before. I m 72. I m thinking there s a percocet/headache/allergy connection. Yes?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Percocet as any other drug does have the risk for allergic reaction. On the other hand the most likely kind of reaction from drugs is with skin rash and or abdominal symptoms and rarely with signs or allergic rhinitis.
Allergic rhinitis can also happen independent of the drug but due to other allergens as well.

I would recommend you to take some Loratadine tablet at night and possibly ask your doctor to give you some nasal steroid drops to help with the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. If you notice no improvement with these for 1-2 weeks then you will need to consider stopping percocet but due to oxycodone which is an opioid you might have withdrawal symptoms so please discuss this with your doctor beforehand.

I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
