What Causes Itchiness At The Site Of Incision After Hernia Surgery?

I had an right inguinal hernia surgery on Tuesday afternoon and have had black and blueness in scrotum and some in the shaft. I understand this is often normal. But in the last day I have had very uncomfortable itching in the same area that is increasing. Could I have a fungal infection. if So would Desenex (2% Miconazole Nitrate antifungal) help (even though intened to relief of athlete s foot. The site of the incision seems to be healing, but is also itching somewhat, but nothing like the scrotum. Your take?

Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal, MD.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

What usually happens is that the small nerves supplying the area of surgery also get incised. No surgeon can avoid the cutting of nerve terminals.

The features of this is the tingling and numbness. This may last till the nerves have had time to regenerate.

The possibilitu of fungal infection cannot be ruled out. I would suggest a swab culture to rule out that possibility. The need of medicines can be decided accordingly

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further.
