What Causes Irregular Periods And Hair Loss After Starting Eltroxin?

hi, Iam a hypothyroid and on medication of eltroxin 100mcg one tablet a day for the past 15 years. I was very thin with good hair and regular periods. After started taking the eltroxin I put on more weight and hairloss, muscle pain and irregular periods started. I have to survive with the body pain now. I regularly go for blood test and without missing even a day I take the eltroxin. What is the use of medication which is making my life miserable? Also let me know what happens if you stop taking eltroxin. My relative have the same problem for many years and told me she sttoped the medication a few months earlier.

Hello,

Irregular periods & hair loss are side effects of Eltroxin, it occurs mainly in the first few months of starting the treatment but in some patients it may continue. Hair loss can be reversed as the thyroid levels get normalized. Take Logihair soft gelatin capsules, once daily for 15 days. Hair loss will get reduced.

Hair loss can occur due to mineral/vitamin deficiency & Celiac disease. Get investigated(get blood & imaging tests done) & assessed so that the treatment can be started at the earliest. Take iron rich food & food rich in calcium, protein & minerals. Eltroxin should not be stopped once started, thyroid replacement therapy is usually taken for lifetime. Stopping or skipping to take this medicine increases the risk of blood pressure irregularities & risk of heart diseases (by elevated cholesterol levels).
