What Causes Irregular Menstruation?

I was making out with my boyfriend around a week before my periods on the 23rd of May. We didn t have sex nor was there any penetration. I just sat on his lap and i am afraid something must have happened then. What happened next was I missed my period and got them later after around a 10 days later on the 6th of June. My period date is usually around the 28th of every month. And i menstruated for 5 days. After my periods, around two weeks later, i noticed slight stains of blood and i thought they were my remaining blood from my last periods. Now i had a new period date because of my delay. The 6th of every month. So next month Around the 6th of July I missed my periods again. I got all the symptoms of a period but i didnt start menstruating yet. Its the 14th of July today and i still don t have my periods. Am I pregnant?

Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concern

1. Most of the times irregular periods are caused by fluctuating hormone levels [thyroid disorder] along with STRESS [worry/anxiety] can impact your menstrual cycle so consult a Gynecologist for general examination and consultation.

2. Treatment of irregular periods varies according to age [from lifestyle changes to hormonal therapy] and since you are in child bearing age [20-40 years] thus following is the approach:

i. P.V. examination and ultrasound to rule out abnormalities of the uterus.
ii. Hb%, WBC, bleeding disorder profile, serum thyroid profile.
iii. Consult with a gynecologist since suffering from hormone imbalance because if general measures fail then she might ask for endometrial curettage & biopsy but if bleeding persists after curettage hysterectomy [removal of uterus] is advised [and because you are planning to have a baby thus it is most unlikely to have your uterus removed]

2. Irregular periods means that you are ovulating Irregularly and due to this STRESS there is further delay in ovulation so the best thing is to remain calm/relax as far as possible and see a gynecologist and try to determine the reason for irregular periods.

3. It will take time and patience but is not impossible, one has to be proactive
