What Causes Irregular And Missed Period?

I am a 23 year old woman of healthy weight who after coming off the pill four years ago has had extremely irregular periods, sometimes not having one for over a year. I want to start a family and am worried about this and how it may have effected my fertility. My last period was now over three months ago! What is wrong with me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There are different possible causes of delayed or irregular periods such as:
(1)polycystic ovarian syndrome

(2)emotional stress or illness

(3)thyroid disease

(4)physical illness

(5)high levels of prolactin hormone

(6)side effect of medication

To determine the cause for you, you may need to consider blood tests checking hormone levels (reproductive hormones, thyroid, prolactin) and imaging of the uterus, ovaries and tubes.

I hope this helps
