Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Intermittent Flank Pain After Having Lithotripsy?
I had lithotripsy about 32 hours ago and am experiencing intermittent left flank pain similar to before the procedure. There was no stent paced. The stone was 6 mm in proximal left ureter. I have passed fragments in the last few hours but not many. Pain is mostly untouched by norco 7.5-325. Is this to be expected?
As the procedure did not cover the stent placement, the pain in flank is mostly related to back pressure changes over the kidney due to broken gravels in the upper ureter.
My guidelines at present: - Drink more liquids - Urinary alkaliser as potassium citrate in glass of water - Vitamin-C containing chewable tablets - Continue prescribed antibiotics - Analgesic as Diclofenac - Anti spasmodic as Drotaverine or Dicyclomine - Ureter muscle relaxant as valtum (0.4mg), which also helps passage of calculus gravels
If the pain is persistent, immediately consult assistant of your urologist for further help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
