Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Indigestion And Bloating While Having Para-umbilical Hernia?
Have a para-umbilical hernia, but had it for years. Not big, just a small foot like shape above naval. I don't have to have surgery yet unless it really bothers me. But in the meantime, have indigestion in chest area, and stomach gets large after eating. It goes down the next day. Don't know if these are part of the symptoms of the hernia. Please advise.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
If the indigestion is frequently happening and if there is a history of umbilical hernia then it is better to get done the hernia repairs because abdomen distension that is happening due to dyspepsia may increase the size of opening of hernia.
And sometime it may turn into medical emergency. You decide for surgery, till then you can avoid taking heavy meal, oily, spicy, fat containing diet to rule out the abdomen infection and hyperacidity.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Akhtarhusain
