What Causes High BP While On Metoprolol And Losartan?

I am a 63 yo male. I take 2 25 mg tablets of Metoprolol Tartrate twice a day and 1 25 mg tablet of Losartan potassium once a day. Previously my bp was high. More than 150/84 it has stabilized to less than 130 something 70 something. My question is do I really need 3 pills? I am losing weight and doing cardio 3 times a week.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thank you for asking this question.

Hypertension is often a chronic progressive illness and often times the dose of drugs / number of drugs need to be continually monitored for the best response.

Sometimes, physicians need to increase the number of drugs because response to a single drug may not be good. That appears the case for you.

Do note that of your blood pressure is stable at a lower level and you've modified your lifestyle, there is a possibility that you may be able to reduce the dose or number of drugs in consultation with your physician. Please discuss the same with your physician.

Hope this answers your questions.
