Your present menstrual pattern is suggestive of altered cycle pattern, probably due to delayed ovulation. This is most often caused by hormone imbalances and as the cycle is prolonged, and it is the pre-ovulation phase that is usually prolonged, the endometrial thickness is increased owing to estrogen effect. This causes the heavy shedding. Infections also should be excluded. There should be no hormone deficiency in the normal case, but, progesterone supplementation often is helpful in such situations.
