What Causes Heavy Periods After Missing Birth Control Patch?

Hello I am on birth control "patch". I put it on for 3 weeks, once a week then off for a week of which I would have my menstruation. But I forgot or missed putting it for 2 days and I bleed even if I did put the patch on the 2nd day I missed. Now the bleeding continues even until the whole cycle of the week and then to the 2nd week after I replace the existing patch. I have my menstruation for 2 weeks straight. And I have to put the patch again tomorrow but I'm still bleeding. It's never happen again and I was on the "patch" system for 8 months now. Can you please tell me what's wrong? I'm a 50 years old healthy woman.

Its strange that at 50 you have menstruation.
Heavy bleeding may be due to hormonal chanfes at your age.
Please consult your gynecologist for bleeding.
Thanks for contacting.
Take care...
