What Causes Heaviness In Ears?

Hello,I suffered ear ache a couple of days ago preceded by cold and nose block. To ease pain, I took brufen 600 and sinarest for a day after which I was told to take augmentin 625, solvin and pcm 650 daily for a week, thrice a day. My ear ache has not returned but my ear is blocked and there is general heaviness. Any thoughts?

Hi

Welcome in H.C.M.

Regarding your query about heahiness in ear, I would like to say it is most likely Eustachian tube dysfunction which is very likely in your case. As you said that initially you were having cold and nasal discharge along with ear ache but after taking antibiotic, anti inflammatory and anti histaminic your all problems gone except heaviness in ear.

This eustachian tube is a tubular connection between throat and middle ear and it plays very important role in equalizing the air pressure of middle and the air pressure of external ear.As soon as this tube gets blocked middle ear pressure becomes negative and patient feels it as blocked ear.

To get relief you should do-

1- Steam inhalation.

2- Xylometazoline nasal drops may be use.

3- Steroids are also helpfull.

4- Walsalva maneuver may also be quite helpfull.

I hope above will solve your problem and you will feel happy.

Regards.
