Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have palpitations all the time. They are generally little momentary flutters or hiccups in my chest. Today however, had an epsidode where it felt like a fish was flopping around in my chest. It felt irregular, not fast. When I tested my BP, it was normal but the little icon for an irregular rythum came on the screen. I have also had a few episodes this year where I wake up in the middle of the night with my heart racing. These have led to panic attacks. I've had a full cardiac workup and wore a halter monitor last year around this time. Could what I experienced today be mere palpitations or should I call my doctor?
I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to a possible cardiac arrhythmia.
Anxiety could also play an important role in all this clinical scenario.
Coming to this point, I would recommend consulting with your doctor and performing some new tests, considering the fact that a year has passed since your last performed tests. I would advice repeating these tests:
- a cardiac ultrasound - an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring - thyroid hormone levels for thyroid gland dysfunction - complete blood count for anemia - blood electrolytes for electrolyte imbalance.
If all these tests result normal, you should consider anxiety as the main cause of your complaints.
Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Kind regards, Dr. Iliri
