What Causes Headaches Along With Chest Pain?

Hello. I recently moved into a new country with almost no money to feed myself. I ve gone over a month trying to eat as little as possible, sticking to mostly pasta and bread and eggs, and if I m feeling lucky I ll have tea with cereal. I can t afford food that will expire quickly. Recently I ve gotten a job and I ve decided to buy dinners for myself with my saved money to make up to the body for eating so little. The past few times when eating dumplings (with chicken and corn etc) and once, a pizza slice, I got severe headache a few minutes afterwards. If I distract myself and move around as I do during my job, it USUALLY goes away after a while, although once it remained until I got some rest at home. I noticed that I ve been experiencing some chest pains on my right side as well when I laugh or cough, but nothing too painful, more slightly distracting. When my friend got me a chicken sandwich with mayonnaise on it, I did not get any headaches. I have a feeling it has a thing to do with my lack of food recently, but I d like to be certain, and also know what to do, considering my limited resources - maybe what I can buy for just as cheap and long lasting instead of perhaps pasta and bread? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A headache and chest pain can be due to hypertension, you can contact a medical staff and check out your blood pressure. Chest pain and headache are clear indications of dehydration.

Lack of proper electrolyte balance in your body causes headaches, take plenty of water, ORS and fruits to supplement your sodium and potassium levels. Respiratory tract infections may lead to chest pain so protect yourself from infections (both viral and bacterial).

For a headache, you can take Acetaminophen (Tylenol), for chest or body pain you can take Combiflam (Paracetamol/Ibuprofen.)

Take fresh food, avoid canned or bottled food, go for brown rice, eggs, beans, oats, multigrain pasta, spinach, fish, soybean, dries lentils, fruits and veggies. Take vitamin supplements.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K,
