What Causes Headache, Back Pain, Weight Loss And Dizziness?

hi I m 17, I have been having quiet a lot of problems lately let me list them. It started at the end of 2012, I started to get really fatigue and weak and eventually my legs started buckling, I was limping. I still have this problem but its slightly better. I had lost a lot of weight within those days since I had low appetite. I also developed back pain which was severe so I consulted a doctor and it seemed like my spine has a bulge (mild scoliosis). and I noticed that when I exercise my legs starts to get weaker and the back pain arises as soon as I do hard work or run. also I get this chest pain when I exercise until I get tired it is really bothering me and I get this weird headaches every now and then, It lasted a week recently and moreover I notice I forget little things easily and it takes me time to remember them unlike before where i remember almost everything. I also feel dizzy and recently I fell down once I stood up from lying position, I often happen to feel dizzy whenever I stand up from sitting or lying position, and its because of low blood count? I have been trying to put on weight but it s quiet hard and I cannot exercise for much long due to my legs and chest pain, I had consulted a lot of doctors regarding this matter but they don t seem to figure out why exactly I m having these problems, please help me.

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I understand your concern and would explain that most of your symptoms (leg weakness, chest pain while exercising) seem to be related to a thoracic column disorder, that may compress your spinal cord.

The episodes of dizziness when standing up may be related to orthostatic hypotension. A head up tilt test is necessary to rule in/out this possible diagnosis. Chronic anemia can worsen this condition.

Your headaches and difficulty in concentrating, may be related to anxiety and psychological stress. Anyway a complete check up is needed to exclude possible a secondary headache.

The episode of weakness and fatigue you refer, associated with a big loss of weight, may be related to an infection or a metabolic disorder.

I recommend you consulting with a neurologist for a careful physical examination for neurological signs, a nerve conduction study of the lower limbs and some lab tests :
-complete blood count
-PCR, sedimentation rate (inflammation tests)
-kidney and liver function tests
-blood electrolytes, etc.

A thoracic-lumbar spine CT scan followed by MRI scan are needed to examine better the structures of your column for possible lesions (slipped disks, infection, inflammatory lesions, tumors, etc).

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes,
Dr. Aida
