What Causes Hand Tremors In An Elderly Person Who Quit Smoking?

My husband is 77 years old, he has been in excellent health all his life. H quit smoking approx 20+ years ago. He started having hand tremors about 2 years ago only in the right hand which were slight, he is right handed, he always had beautiful ledge-able hand writing, you can t even read his signature anymore. Now he is having what he describes as a sharp electrical shock from the back of his skull on the right side up over his head down through his right eye, he says he can t see out of that eye when it happens.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
The symptoms you describe suggest a neurological disorder. It is less likely to be linked to quitting smoking since withdrawal symptoms are felt almost immediately you quit smoking.Possible causes include: Parkinson's disease, essential tremors, cereballar tremors ,Holmes' tremor and a series of other neurologic and metabolic disorders.
I will suggest you see a Neurologist for examination and work-ups so as to know the cause with certainty and be better managed.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
