What Causes Gum Bleeding When Brushing In Kids?

My 6 years old cute little daughter when was brushing her teeth. There were bleeding gums that I noticed. This has happened like the second time in 2 months. I am terrified to think something wrong is happening to her. I am feeling really paranoid. She is healthy otherwise with occasional cold/flus as all kids probably get in her age. How common is this in kids to have bleeding gums. I am also her dentist today

Hello,

The bleeding gums could be because of the gum infection secondary to the deposits because of improper maintenance of oral hygiene. The other possible causes include any pulp polyp, bleeding disorders like thrombocytopenic purpura. Consult an oral physician, and get your child's teeth cleaned. If the bleeding does not stop even after this, then get a complete blood investigation done including international normalized ratio (INR) to rule out other causes and treat accordingly.

Dentist Dr. Dr. Rohit S Menon's  Response
Hello,

Bleeding of gums in the kids at this age is common so dont worry, but be careful with her diet reduce sticky food and fruit juices and all if at all given clean it that time itself, and you should properly check her to do brushing twice daily though children at this age tend to cry for not doing brushing. Maintain good hygiene. Bleeding is simple gingivitis common in this age group children.
