What Causes Frequent Urination And Itchiness In The Vagina?

HELLO DOCTOR,

USUALLY, MY MENSTURAL CYCLE IS 27 DAYS. MY PREVIOUS FIRST DAY OF THE LMP IS 10 SEPT 2010. WE HAD SEX ONCE IN THE SECOND HALF OF SEPTEMBER. THIS MONTH (OCTOBER), I GOT MY PERIODS ON 10TH.

I HAVE FREQUENT URINATION & KIND OF A ITCHY FEELING IN MY VAGINAL AREA. WHEN I PASS URINE, I HAVE A VERY RELEIVED FEELING....

I AM VERY CONFUSED WHETHER THIS IS SIGNS OF PREGNANCY OR DO I HAVE ANY OTHER DISEASE.

PLEASE CLARIFY MY DOUBT.... AWAITING FOR YOUR EARLY REPLY...

REGARDS,
VIDHYA.

Dear Vidhya,

The cardinal symptom of pregnancy is missing a period. You have not missed the period. So pregnancy cannot be considered as diagnosis of your symptoms.

Frequency of urination associated with vulval itching which is getting relieved after passing the urine is indicative of the urinary bladder irritation. It could be because of infection, stone or crystals passing through the urine. Please get your urine examined.

If urinary infection, get urine culture and sensitivity test done which will identify the causative organisms and the antibiotics to which they are sensitive. Accordingly you will be started with the antibiotics.

If Crystals or urinary stones, the urine examination will identify the crystals. Accordingly you will have to modify your diet and take medicines which will help the crystals to dissolve in the urine and not cause ant problems. Most of the times, they are oxalate crystals. Urinary alkalinizers help them to get dissolved. The stones may call for ultrasonography destruction or surgical removal.

In any case please drink plenty of water.

Also report to the Gynaecologist to rule out any vaginal infection like yeast or trichomonal. The prior can be managed by local antifungal pessaries and later by metronidazole. However, itching due to these infections will be increased after passing the urine and not relieved.

Your urine examination will give clue to the treatment.
