What Causes Frequent Infected Ingrown Toenails?
Dr Grief, my grandson is getting infected ingrown toenails. We soak, he has had surgury and he continues to get them. He has been getting urgent care and sulfa drugs to treat the various infections. This happens on both toes. He has been on antibiotics for the toes at least 4 times in past few months. First for one toe then the other. Are the wrong drugs being prescribed? Why is this continuing. He is 11 yrs old.

1. Don't squeeze the lesions as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Take an NSAID (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) like ibuprofen for 5-7 days.
4. Only curative treatment is nail avulsion done by a dermatologist.
