What Causes Fluctuations In Thyroid Levels While On Armour Thyroid?

I HAVE BEEN ON ARMOUR THYROID 180 MG FOR 15 YEARS. I JUST HAD A PHYSICAL AND MY DOCTOR CALLED ME THIS MORNING AND SAID EVERYTHING IS NORMAL EXCEPT MY THYROID WHICH IS AT 400. HE TOLD ME TO GO OFF IT FOR A WEEK THEN GO BACK ON 90MG. I TOLD HIM I KNOW A WOMAN S BODY GOES THROUGH A CHEMICAL CHANGE EVERY 7 YEARS. COULD THIS BE WHAT HAPPENED TO MY THYROID LEVEL?

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, it's not because of any physical change but usually with such medicine, thyroid levels should be regularly monitored every three months at least and to adjust treatment accordingly as fluctuations in thryoid levels may occur.

So you need to follow current treatment regimen and get levels after three months to decide the dose for next quarter. Continuing one dosage blindly isn't recommended at all.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
