What Causes Flatulence And Frequent Bowel Movements?

Hello Dr., My dad is 71 years old and a renal patient. He is on hemodialysis (thrice a week). It has been observed since last five days that he gets fever on alternate days with bouts of shivering. He suffers from continuous hiccups and belching. He seems to have gas problem. He also goes to toilet after every meal. Please advise what could be his problem.

Hello,

The causes of shivering in dialysis patients is probably septicaemia or infection I think site for infection may be gut for your father that's why he is passing stools. Hiccups and belching may be due to GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) or renal failure.

Other possibilities for shivering are electrolyte imbalance, fall of temperature during dialysis et cetera. Please consult your nephrologist, he/she will examine and treat you accordingly.
