What Causes Fever, Swollen Gums And Mouth Pain To A 2 Year Old?

My two year old daughter has had a fever for two days. It subsided this evening, but she was complaining that her mouth hurt. When we looked in her mouth we noticed her gums were red and swollen. When I brushed her teeth for bed they bled a little. About a week ago she fell and bit the inside of her lip and the spot is still there. I am not sure if that has anything to do with this. She has not ate anything more than a bite or two over the last two days.
