Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal, MD.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

I think if you have a biopsy diagnosis of Kikuchi syndrome, you need not look further. In fact when I was reading your query, my mind was saying like- This is probably kikuchi syndrome, and then your biopsy report was mentioned. In favor of your doctor, SLE would have been a possibility, but once you have a biopsy report, its almost confirmed to be that illness only. The other possibility could have been a lymphoma.

The confusion of SLE arises because the blood test ANA is positive in both the diseases.

the exact cause of this disease is unknown. Many people consider it an infection. Others like me consider it autoimmune.

This is usually a limited disease- in that the symptoms are usually self limiting, This is a condition in which there is a need of steroids and pain killers called (NSAIDs).

To answer the last part of your question, the syndrome can be treated by any good physician who has experience in handling the disease. You need not get to a specialist like a neurologist or a cardiologist. You can meet a rheumatologist if you are really needed. In fact, if admitted, I would say that your own doctor can ask the in hospital rheumatologist to take a look at your brother.

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above/if any other so I can be of help further.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Please feel free to ask another query. I would be glad to help you. Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
