What Causes Feeling Of Something Struck In Throat And Difficulty In Swallowing?

HI, I have had a feeling like something like a piece of popcorn is in my throat. I've had it for almost a week and I get worried when I swallow because it feels like I can't swallow as much as I could before or maybe it's just having that feeling that worries me. I'm a 36 year old female with no bad health history. Can someone please help me?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi,thank you for posting your query on health care magic.

Looking at your symptoms, you might be suffering from globus sensation (foreign body sensation in your throat). It might be caused due to Gastro-esophageal reflux disease,Upper esohageal sphincter hypercontraction(Cricopharyngeal spasm),or any Oesophageal(food pipe) problem.

Cricopharyngeal spasm is generally caused by stress.Muscle relaxants and stress reduction will generally relieve the problem.

Gastro-esophageal reflux is relieved by taking medicines like Pantoprazole.

It would be advisable to consult a Gastro-enterologist to do Upper Gastro-intestinal Endoscopy. Also do a test called Barium Swallow(it is like an Xray of oesophagus).

Hope this answers your query.Get well soon.
