Hello. Welcome to HCM and thank you for your question. I understand your concern.
Well, alcohol acts with different mechanism in different organ systems. One of them is the heart, in which, it has the action on sinus node, through serotonin and other unclear mechanisms, by increasing the heart rate.
There are a lot of different situations when hard, pounding, forceful heart beats can be produced. Physical activity, adrenalin flush in the system, alcohol, caffeine-containing beverages, psychological
stress,
anxiety, panic attacks, all of these are only some of the triggers of
increased heart rate, skipped heart beats, forceful contractions etc. I would like to assure you that there is nothing to worry about, since there is a clear cause that posed the heart to a hyperdynamic state, which, to compensate, beats harder and, sometimes, faster.
However, it is my duty and opinion to advise you to use alcohol with confinements and reduce it to a maximum or 30 grams of
ethanol per day (i.e. two beers or a shot of heavy alcohol). These doses are even considered beneficial to the heart and increase HDL ("good")
cholesterol.
I hope I was helpful with my answer.
Best regards,
Dr. Meriton
