Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am constantly swallowing what seems to be excessive saliva. I have Parkinson s and have consulted my neurologist about the problem. He injected Botox into my saliva glands but, the problem continues. It is making me very stressed and is causing me to develop tongue ulcers. I would appreciate your thoughts.
Well, excessive salivation in Parkinsonism patients can be due to reduced swallowing rather than increased salivation.. You can follow following remedies that will help in reducing drooling. 1. You should swallow often. 2.You should consult a Neurophysician and he can advise you medication like Dopa agonists like Levodopa and at times anti-cholinergic drugs can also be advised.. 3. You should learn lip strengthening exercises. 4.You should gargle frequently with alcoholic antiseptic mouthwash as they have a drying effect in mouth.. 5. Drink plenty of water..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
