Hello,
I can understand your concern. Sometimes it may happen that as thyroid gland is situated in the neck, dysfunction of the gland may cause difficulty in swallowing saliva and thus even if the salivary glands produce normal amount of saliva, it may pool in mouth due to defective swallowing. In that case,
excessive salivation can be attributed to the
thyroid disorder and treatment of disorder may solve salivation problem.
As your tongue is very painful due to constant pressing on teeth, you can apply Benzocain gel (Mucopain) topically over the injured areas of tongue, 3-4 times a day, especially before meals for relief. In addition, if you will try to swallow with closed mouth, your tongue will not need to constantly press on teeth and pressing on
palate will help in swallowing along with saving tongue from injuries.
If the problem persists after treatment for thyroid disorder, you may need to visit a
dentist for physical examination regarding infection of salivary glands.
I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Let me know if you have follow up questions.
