What Causes Excessive Salivation At Night?

hello, I produce a lot of saliva which means, particulary at night time I'm gulping loadly and constantly having to swallow - i think it is also caused by the build up of air as well. Back of my throat feels tight and my wife says I sometime sound like i'm struggliung to swallow. It is quite annoying and can keep both my wife and I up...waiting fro the next swallow and gulp. Can you help? What could be cause and do I need to see a specialist?

Hi.
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain the symptoms of excessive salivation and difficulty in swallowing with tightness in throat seems to be due to Laryngopharyngeal reflux also known as Silent reflux..
In this condition there are no classical symptoms of acid reflux present like hear burn, chest tightness etc but there is still reflux of acid leading to irritation in throat, choking and due to stimulation of salivary glands there is excessive saliva/mucous production..
I would suggest you to consult a Gastroenterologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Upper G.I Endoscopy can help in diagnosis and treatment can be planned accordingly..
In case of silent reflux you can be advised to take proton pump inhibitors like Omeprazole, antacids, take small meals every 2 to 3 hours, avoid spicy and heavy meals and sleep with head slightly raised as compared to feet..
Do moderate workout and also take walk after meals..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
