What Causes Elevated Bilirubin Levels?

Hi, I had a blood test and my Bilirubin levels were high, everything else was normal. I ve noticed a noticed an almost sweet smell to my urine is it possible im smelling bilirubin in my urine? I have a repeat blood test soon but I m just a little worried at the minute Thanks

No you cannot smell Bilirubin in urine.
It could be the smell of ammonia in your urine. Bilirubin is raised commonly in liver diseases or due to increased red blood cell destruction.
Direct and indirect bilirubin levels can give a clue to the underlying cause of raised bilirubin levels.
