What Causes Elevated GGT Level In Blood?

MY GGT levels are 113, and I need to get them lowered drastically. I m not a drinker but had a few sips of wine late last week, before my test on Monday. I don t believe that would be enough to affect the scores three or four days later, right? What could be other causes for such a high level?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

GGT is increased with persistent alcohol use but if you only used a few sips of wine and do not regularly use alcohol then there would have to be another cause.

Some of the other causes of increased GGT are: (1) hepatitis -infection of the liver
(2) pancreatitis
(3)mass in the liver
(4) cirrhosis
(5)heart failure
(6)side effect of medication
(7)smoking
(8)lupus

If the repeat value is high then your doctor may suggest further tests to determine the cause.

I hope this helps
