What Causes Dizziness And Nausea Along With Clogged Ears?

I have peripheral artery disease. I had my right leg amputated below the knee 8 years ago. About 3 years ago I suddenly had a dizzy attack & broke out in a sweat. My primary care diagnosed inner ear infection, treated with antibiotics and it cleared up. It happened again twice within the next 2-3 years. The last time it started was about 18 months ago. The dizziness & nausea did not go away with the treatment of infection. I had a cat scan about 4 months later and also ENT tested me for Meniers which was negative and basically just said I have vertigo. I continue to suffer from the dizziness/lightheadiness/trouble concentrating/nausea, etc. The first sign of it is a clogging/fullness in my left ear, which has become almost constant with a ringing at times. My hearing in that ear gets very bad at times but fluctuates. I have been trying to research vascular vertigo, vascular loop, etc. Do you have any suggestions about what could be the cause and/or what kind of test you would recommend? It has gotten to the point of being debilitating on a fairly regular basis. Thank you

Hi,

Noted the long and detailed history about peripheral vascular disease, amputation below knee, recurrent attacks of vertigo, nausea, tested negative for Meniere's disease, starts as fullness in left ear, fluctuating hearing loss, researching vascular causes.
As per the history you have provided the commonest causes I can think about are as follows:
Peripheral vascular disease is known to cause these symptoms hence should be investigated accordingly.
Other vascular causes such as loop around the vestibulocochlear nerve is another cause and MRI with MR Angiography can give the best diagnosis.
Dizziness, nausea is treated symptomatically.
Fluctuating hypertension can be the reason.
All other reasons should be investigated, found and treated accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
