What Causes Discharge From Nipples Inspite Of Being On Mirena?

I am a 28 yr old female. I had a child 4 years ago. Was on Mirena and Spiranolactone for 1 year and half. Stopped taking it, removed the mirena for about 6 months last year. I have been back on Mirena and Spiranolactone for the past 6 months. For about about a year I have had some clear discharge from one nipple but did not think it concerning as it was minimal. About 2 months ago my breasts became swollen and very sore, I went into the doctor for concern of pregnancy , and am not pregnant. Now my breasts specifically my right breast feels larger, swollen, and itchy ( engorging feeling) It recently started to leak out a milky discharge along with clear discharge from enlarged dimple like pores on my Aereola. This has been constant and there is no fluctuation in pain or swelling, it remains constant. What could be going on?

Hello,
thanks for choosing health Care magic for consultation.
I understand your concern.

In my opinion , discharge and pain in breast is because of increased prolactin levels. Increase in prolactin , one hormone, can be because of some medicines. In your case, both mirena and spironolactone can cause increase in prolactin.

So it is highly recommended to get your serum prolactin levels (blood test) and sonography breast done.

For breast pain I generally advise my patients to take diclofenac and serratiopeptidase combination tablets.

but getting tests done and clinical check up from Doctor is must.

hope this helps.
For any clarification, feel free to post again.
