What Causes Difficulty While Swallowing Along With Ear Pain?

Hi, I was brushing my teeth and play fighting with my wife when she accidentally hit the toothbrush causing it to cut the top of my mouth right before the dangling thingy. The bleeding stopped relatively quickly but now every time I swallow, it kills and my right ear suddenly feels like I have an ear ache. What to do?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM,

Understanding your concern .As per your query you have difficulty while swallowing along with ear pain . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query , but in your case it seems to me that the symptoms are due to sore throat , it can be bacterial or viral . Also infection has traveled from sore throat to ear through eustachian tube or visa versa . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order throat swab test , viral culture test and blood test along with examination with laryngoscope and otoscope . Doctor may prescribe antibactrial ( amoxicillin or penicillin ) , anti viral ( acyclovir ) along with anti allergic and decongestant . For now do warm saline gargles , apply warm dry compresses on external ear and take steam . Keep your ear dry and cover your ear while bathing .
