What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing Liquid And Food?
I am having difficulty swallowing liquids and food. I don t have any issue unless I am doing one or the other. I can swallow eventually but it takes effort and my reflex is to panic as if I will choke or get strangled on liquid or food. This began a few months ago and has gotten progressively worse.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of having difficulty in swallowing both the liquids and solids too for the last few months, and is getting progressively worst. The most probable causes can be: - Cancer of the throat. - Neurological affection of the muscles of deglutition. - Local mass effect.
To get a diagnosis: Upper GI endoscopy as well as pharyngoscopy. Test of the blood particularly sugar and so on. - MRI of the throat. - an opinion of a Neurologist is a must with his clinical evaluation and opinion and further management. - Thick Barium study of the pharynx.
The treatment will depend upon the final diagnosis.
