What Causes Diarrhea?

My husband has had diarrhea for months (since February of 2014). It has never subsided. He s had his stool tested with negative results (no further explanation was given - it was for a general physical). At one point in time he ad a perfect circle of redness on his buttocks and is now a deep red, flakey rash in his butt crack. He believes it was generated by his metoprolol medication (which he has since quit taking - a few months). I don t know how much he actually reveals to his female doctor but she is aware of the diarrhea problem. Could this be ringworm and can ringworm evolve into or from your digestive tract?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted history related to your husband.
This looks to be under diagnosed diarrhea of a long duration.
The skin lesion on the buttock looks to be times that is fungal infection.
Due to diarrhea there is less absorption of multivitamins and minerals which is very important for strength and integrity of skin and mucus membrane.
I would advise him the following:
Get Colonoscopy, CT scan of the abdomen, thyroid function tests and others.
Once diagnoef properly the treatment will be easy and curative.
